وکیپیڈیا کے مطابق  ہخامنشی سلطنت  559 قبل مسیح سے 338 قبل مسیح تک قائم ایک فارسی سلطنت تھی جو عظیم ایرانی سلطنتوں کے سلسلے کی پہلی کڑی تھی ہخامنشی مملکت میں موجودہ ایران کے علاوہ  مشرق میں موجودہ  افغانستان، پاکستان کے چند حصے اور مغرب میں مکمل اناطولیہ یعنی موجودہ ترکی، بالائی جزیرہ نما بلقان (تھریس) اور بحیرہ اسود  کا بیشتر ساحلی علاقہ شامل تھا۔ مغرب میں اس میں موجودہ عراق، شمالی سعودی عرب، فلسطین (اردن، اسرائیل اور لبنان) اور قدیم مصر  کے تمام اہم مراکز شامل تھے۔ مغرب میں اس کی سرحدیں لیبیا تک پھیلی ہوئیں تھیں

پچہتر لاکھ مربع کلو میٹر   پر پھیلی ہخامنشی سلطنت تاریخ کی وسیع ترین سلطنت تھی اور آبادی کے لحاظ سے رومی سلطنت  ے بعد دوسری سب سے بڑی سلطنت تھی۔ یہ سلطنت 330 قبل مسیح میں سکندر اعظم کے ہاتھوں ختم ہوئی  سلطنت کا پہلا حکمران کورش اعظم یا سائرس اعظم تھا جبکہ دارا سوم اس کا آخری حکمران تھا۔ ہخامنشی سلطنت کا دارالحکومت پرسیپولس یعنی تخت جمشید تھا جبکہ آتش پرستی ریاستی مذہب تھا۔
