حضرت عیسیٰ کی پیدایش سے تین سو ستاٰئس سال قبل سکندر ہندوستان پر حملہ کی غرض سے ایران سے روانہ ہوا تو اس کی فوج میں ایک لاکھ پینتیس ہزار سپاہی شامل تھے جن میں سے گھڑ سوار سپاہیوں کی تعداد پندرہ ہزار کے لگ بھگ تھی سکندر نے کابل میں اپنی سپاہ کو دو حصوں میں تقسیم کیا ایک حصے کو دریائے سندھ کے ساتھ ساتھ روانہ کیا جبکہ دوسرے حصے کی خود قیادت کرتے ہوے اٹک کے قریب دریائے سندھ کو عبور کیا اور دریائے جہلم کے قریب ہندوستانی راجہ پورس کی فوج کو شکست سے دوچار کیا۔ ملتان کو فتح کرنے کے لئے ملوئی قوم سے گھمسان کی جنگ ہوئی اور اسی لڑائی میں اسے زہر میں بجھا ہوا تیر بھی لگا اور وہ شدید زخمی ہوا۔ ملتان کو فتح کرنے کے بعد سکندر کی فوج نے آگے پیش قدمی سے انکار کیا تو سکندر نے ہندوستان کو مکمل فتح کرنے کی خواہش کو ادھورا چھوڑ کر واپسی کی راہ لی۔ واپسی کا جو راستہ اختیارکیا گیا وہ کوہ سلیمان کے مشہور اور قدیمی درے جسے اب کاہا سلطان کہا جاتا ہے سے ہو کر گزرتا تھا۔ اسی درے کے کنارے تاریخی قلعہ ہڑند واقع ہے



شہزادی نوشابہ اپنی خوبصورتی، بہادری اور ذہانت کی وجہ سے مشہور تھی اور اپنے باپ کا کاروبار حکومت چلانے میں ہاتھ بٹاتی تھی

مقامی روایات کے مطابق ہڑند کے قلعہ پر ایک ہندو راجہ قابض تھا جس کی ایک بیٹی تھی جس کا نام نوشابہ تھا شہزادی نوشابہ اپنی خوبصورتی، بہادری اور ذہانت کی وجہ سے مشہور تھی اور اپنے باپ کا کاروبار حکومت چلانے میں ہاتھ بٹاتی تھی جبکہ شکار کھیلنے کی بھی بے حد شوقین تھی۔ شہزادی کی خوبصورتی کا چرچہ سکندر تک بھی پہنچ چکا تھا اور اس کے دل میں یہ خواہش پیدا ہوئی کہ وہ بھی اس حسین شہزادی کو اپنی اٰنکھوں سے دیکھے اور اس کے لئے اس نے یہ تدبیر نکالی کہ خود سکندے کے پیغام رسان کا روپ دھار کر وہ قلعہ ہڑند میں شہزادی کو دیکھنے پہنچ گیا۔ اسے راجہ کے دربار میں لے جایا گیا جہاں شہزادی نوشابہ اپنے باپ کے ساتھ موجود تھی شہزادی نے پیغام رساں کو شاہی مہمان خانے میں لے جانے کا حکم دیا اور خود بھی مہمان خانے پہنچ گئی۔ جب سکندر نے اسے بتایا کہ وہ سکندر کا پیغام رساں ہے تو شہزادی مسکرا دی اور اپنے ہاتھ کے اشارے سے ایک دیوار پر سکندر کی تصویر کی جانب اس کی توجہ مبذول کرائی۔ دیوار پر سکندر کے علاوہ اس دور کے تمام نامی گرامی بادشاہوں کی تصویریں لگی ہوئی تھیں۔ فارسی زبان کے مشہور اٰذربائجانی شاعر نظامی گنجوی نے اپنی منظوم کتاب سکندر نامہ میں شہزادی نوشابہ اور سکندر کی محبت کو قلمبند کیا ہے نظامی گنجوی کے مطابق دونوں نے اٰپس میں شادی کر لی تھی تاہم تاریخ کی کتابوں میں اس شادی کی تصدیق نہیں ہوتی۔ قلعہ ہرنڈ راجنپور ضلع کی تحصیل جامپور سے تقریبا ساٹھ کلو میٹر مغرب کی جانب ہڑند نامی قصبے کے ساتھ واقع ہے تیس ایکڑ رقبے پر مشتمل قلعہ کے گرد دیواراسطرح تعمیر ہوئی ہے کہ گول دائرے میں اس کے سولہ حصے بنتے ہیں۔ قلعے کی بیرونی دیوار سرخ پکی اینٹوں سے بنی ہوئی ہے کہا جاتا ہے کہ ایک ہندو راجہ ہرناکس اور اس کے بیٹے لوک بھگت نے ہڑند قلعے کی تعمیر موہنجوداڑو کے طرز پر کی۔ محمد بن قاسم اور احمد شاہ ابدالی نے ہندوستان پر اپنے حملوں کے دروان ہڑند قلعہ کو فتح کیا۔ اٹھارہ سو اکتیس میں ملتان کے گورنر دیوان ساون مل نے پرانے قلعے کو نئی جگہ قلعہ تعمیر کرایا توپرانے قلعے کا ملبہ استعمال میں لایا گیا
